Research students from Unicauca in the national academic and scientific agenda

The students of the Chemistry program who are part of the Research Group on Bioactive Compound Chemistry (QCB) presented their work during the 11th Colombian Congress of Chromatography.

The 11th Colombian Chromatography Congress, held from November 13 to 15 in the city of Bucaramanga, included in its academic agenda the presentation of works led by Unicauca students who are part of the Bioactive Compound Chemistry Research Group (QCB).

In this context, Karen Torres, a student of the Chemistry program at the University of Cauca, presented her work “Standardization of a methodology through GC-MS for the identification and quantification of diclofenac and loratadine as emerging contaminants.” Her participation in the event was made possible by a registration scholarship granted by the Professional Chemistry Council (CPQ).

The event also featured the participation of the following students: Lessly Fenid Romero Duarte, who presented her work “Synthesis and Characterization of Deep Eutectic Solvents for Use as Extractants of Emerging Contaminants in Aqueous Samples”; María Camila Ruiz Benavides with her proposal “Study of growth inhibition of white rot fungi species in the presence of the antibiotic doxycycline”; and Jennifer Vanessa González Hurtado, who, in the environmental area, presented her research “Optimization of the Encapsulation Method of the Microalga Chlorella vulgaris for its Subsequent Use in the Bioremoval of Emerging Contaminants in Water.”

The event’s agenda also included the 3rd Pan-American Symposium on Essential Oils (III SPAE), where the research “Preliminary characterization of different extracts of Spathodea campanulata: a study on their chemical composition” was presented by students Tatiana Andrea Suárez Agredo, Juan Múnera, and Diana Sofía Sánchez, who received a registration scholarship from the Colombian Society of Chemical Sciences (SCCQ).

Finally, the agenda included the 16th Latin American Symposium on Environmental Analytical Chemistry (XVI LASEAC), where student Feyer Mamián Piamba presented his work “Standardization of a Methodology for the Determination of Nitrates, Nitrites and Sulfates in Rainwater by UV-VIS Spectrophotometry using Ion Exchangers.”

The 11th Colombian Chromatography Congress (XI COCOCRO), organized by the Colombian Society of Chemical Sciences (SCCQ), is the result of more than 20 years of uninterrupted work in the dissemination of scientific and technological endeavors, as well as instrumental developments and the latest advances in chromatographic separation techniques. This event, held every two years, brings together prominent national and international scientists in the field, who present the results of developments in various topics such as the development of stationary phases and consumables, the latest advances in instrumentation, as well as applications and scopes.
