Semillero de Bosques y Silvicultura participa en Diplomado de Formación de Cuidadores Agroecológicos de Semillas

A group of seven students from the Forests and Silviculture Research Training Group of the Forestry Engineering program, accompanied by Professor Alex Ordóñez, represented the University of Cauca at the first meeting of the fourth cohort of the Diploma in Training Agroecological Seed Caretakers, held in the city of Pasto, Nariño.

The event, which brought together various actors interested in agroecology and seed preservation, focused on creating connections between communities and nature, with a particular emphasis on the care of seeds, food security, and the well-being of future generations. During the gathering, the importance of traditional practices of planting, harvesting, and processing seeds was highlighted, as these are fundamental for strengthening the territory and promoting sustainable development. “The goal of initiatives like this is to contribute to a sustainable and just future, where seeds and nature are valued and respected,” stated Professor Ordoñez.

The participation of these students not only strengthens their academic training but also reflects the University of Cauca’s commitment to environmental preservation and the promotion of sustainable development in the region. This event, beyond being an academic experience, invites reflection on the essential role that young people play in protecting our environment. In their hands lies the responsibility to keep alive the ancestral practices that have cared for the land and its fruits, ensuring that the legacy of seeds, as symbols of life and continuity, endures for future generations.
