The 21 members of the academic community of the University of Cauca presented their research work on Nanotechnology and Biomaterials, Chemical Synthesis, Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products Chemistry, Industrial Biotechnology, Catalysis, and the Teaching of Chemistry.

Thirteen students and eight professors from the Chemistry program at the University of Cauca presented their research progress and results during the I International Symposium on Chemistry, Biotechnology and Innovative Materials (SIQBMI), the I Colombian Meeting on Inorganic Chemistry (ECQI), and the II Forum on Medicinal Chemistry, an event that took place from August 12 to 14, 2025, at the University of Magdalena in the city of Santa Marta.

The students from the research groups BICAMSA, Catalysis, GIPEL, QCB, and QPN, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry, shared their research on topics such as Nanotechnology and Biomaterials, Chemical Synthesis, Medicinal Chemistry, Natural Products Chemistry, Industrial Biotechnology, Catalysis, and the Teaching of Chemistry, all focused on green chemistry.

A total of 21 papers were presented, associated with advances in the extraction of NSAID-type drugs present in water samples using magnetic nanoparticles and the evaluation of the effect of emerging pharmaceutical contaminants on fungal growth; the development of analytical methods for the analysis of sericin and for assessing the reliability of dietary supplements with anti-obesity effects; innovation in food products derived from trout and quinoa; the study of terpyridine complexes and the synthesis of salen through emerging techniques; the synthesis and characterization of new coordination polymers of lanthanide metals; the optimization of biomass generation for the production of third-generation biodiesel; and the degradation of microplastics using titanium oxide photocatalysts supported on graphene oxides, as well as the preparation of an electrocatalyst from coconut fiber for the electro-oxidation of methanol.

The Colombian Meeting on Inorganic Chemistry, whose scientific committee included the participation of Professor Richard Fernando D’Vries from the University of Cauca, set among its objectives the creation of an opportunity to establish links with the national and international scientific community, facilitating knowledge transfer and the creation of collaborative networks.
