The course proposes an authentic and multinational learning environment in which distributed teams develop a real Industry 4.0 technologies project, in coordination with clients from both academia and industry. For this reason, over the past two weeks, students from the Systems Engineering Program at the University of Cauca: Samuel Guilombo Gómez, Carlos Mario Vivas García, Steven Chanchi, Juan Camilo Rodallega Mera, Oscar Andrés Tosne Pérez, and Álvaro Daniel Erazo Ramírez, have joined groups composed of participants from the other countries in the consortium.
In this setting, teams self-manage by applying the SCRUM framework and making use of technologies, project management best practices, and source code configuration management. In this way, students not only strengthen their technical knowledge, but also gain international experience and develop soft skills such as effective communication, time planning, emotional management, and leadership, working with international clients and in the English language.
The course aims to provide direct experience in distributed teams and prepare students for industry dynamics; foster collaboration in geographically dispersed contexts; understand the complexity of distributed software development; promote the use of tools and technologies for global environments; manage development processes in a predictable manner; encourage cooperation among individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures; and expand academic and professional networks through an enriching learning process.
The course will run until December 2025. Upon completion, students will be evaluated and will receive certification granted by the University of Mälardalen (Sweden). Likewise, the SUCCESS project will continue for two more years, offering new training opportunities, participation in competitions, and access to international study scholarships.
From the University of Cauca, we celebrate these spaces that strengthen academic excellence and reflect our commitment to internationalization and innovation in the education of professionals capable of responding to the challenges of Industry 4.0 technologies. These experiences enrich our students’ knowledge and consolidate in them competencies that transcend the boundaries of the classroom, reaffirming that through public, high-quality higher education, we transform lives, build the future, and make dreams come true.
