Professor Andrés Felipe Villaquirán Hurtado, a faculty member of the Physiotherapy program, was invited as a speaker at the II International Congress of the Pleokinetic Network to present his research work “Control, Management, and Mitigation of Ankle Injury Risk in Sports,” where he showcased the progress made in the functional assessment of this joint and the development of strategies for athlete health care.
The event, organized by the University of La Frontera in Chile, in the city of Temuco from October 24 to 25, addressed advances in functional electromechanical dynamometry in health and sports performance, with the participation of faculty members and researchers from more than 20 universities from countries such as Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, Uruguay, Brazil, and Colombia, represented by Professor Andrés Felipe Villaquirán Hurtado from the University of Cauca.
In this regard, the professor from the University of Cauca presented results stemming from the research efforts of the Physical Activity and Sports axis and the Human Body Movement and Quality of Life Research Group of the Physiotherapy program. This work consolidates collaboration with the University of Granada and the IDAFISAD research group, strengthening international cooperation and networked research initiatives.
The Ibero-American Knowledge Network Pleokinetic (Pleokinetic) is a thematic network that brings together research groups from different countries in Europe and Latin America, from both public and private institutions, with the purpose of disseminating and sharing scientific advances in the study of muscle strength related to health and sports performance.
Its general objective is to apply information and communication technologies (ICT) to foster connections and communication among Ibero-American organizations. The University of Cauca began its participation in the network last year, with Professor Andrés Felipe Villaquirán Hurtado contributing to various studies on ankle strength in sports, which has helped strengthen international collaboration in research processes related to sports physiotherapy.
