Unicauca students stand out for research on the Colombian pharmaceutical service

Juan David Carvajal Cucuñame and María Paula Cabezas Charry, together with their professor and thesis advisor, Fulvio Yesid Vivas Cantero, shared the results of this research during the 11th International Week of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SICTEI).

Our project addresses patient safety and aims to improve the quality of care within the Colombian pharmaceutical service, based on a qualitative study that identified key needs related to monitoring temperature and relative humidity during the storage stage of medications.

In this context, the research article “Specific Needs of the Colombian Pharmaceutical Service Related to Temperature and Relative Humidity Monitoring” was presented by students Juan David Carvajal Cucuñame and María Paula Cabezas Charry, who, together with the professor and thesis advisor Fulvio Yesid Vivas Cantero, participated as speakers in the 11th International Week of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SICTEI) held in the city of Cúcuta, Colombia.

The three members of the Embedded Systems Research Group (SISE), part of the Telematics Engineering Group within the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications at the University of Cauca, were accepted on August 26 to present and defend their research article during the 8th Inter-Institutional Meeting of Research Groups (EISI), an event that was part of the 11th International Week of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SICTEI), organized by the University Francisco de Paula Santander, and which included the participation of international experts.

In this way, on October 23, 2024, they successfully delivered their presentation in this forum, which allowed them to share the results of research projects obtained from different areas of knowledge by both researchers and students.

“Through a research instrument that we designed, it was possible to collect the opinions of personnel from various pharmaceutical services that are part of the Colombian pharmaceutical system, working in an interdisciplinary manner,” stated Juan David Carvajal Cucuñame.

The results obtained from this process open new avenues for the development of technological tools to support process improvements, prevent medication errors, and ensure the proper care of patients’ health.
