Unicauca´s student presents in Bogotá her research work on environmental contamination of water sources

With the research work “Electrochemical Degradation of Amoxicillin as an Emerging Contaminant, and its Comparison with the Fenton Method,” Laura Sofía Vera Sarria, from the Chemistry program at the University of Cauca, participated in the 6th Colombian Congress of Electrochemistry.

Laura Isabel Vera Sarria, a student researcher of the Electrochemical Processes Research Group (GIPEL), attached to the Department of Chemistry at the University of Cauca, participated as a speaker with her research work of high scientific relevance in the area of environmental contamination of water sources, during the 6th Colombian Electrochemistry Congress, an event held from November 18 to 22 in the city of Bogotá.

The event, organized by the Universities of Los Andes, Antonio Nariño and the Amazon, with the support of the Colombian Association of Electrochemistry, featured the participation of leading national and international researchers who shared their knowledge through conferences and plenary sessions. Students and professionals presented their most recent contributions through talks and posters, strengthening the exchange of ideas and the development of this important scientific field.

In this setting, the student of the Chemistry program presented her research work titled “Electrochemical Degradation of Amoxicillin as an Emerging Contaminant, and its Comparison with the Fenton Method,” which was of great interest to the event attendees. The results obtained demonstrated advantages of the electrochemical method in degrading the antibiotic, positioning this type of research as an alternative to improve the efficiency of conventional treatments for contaminated water.

The Electrochemical Processes Research Group GIPEL expresses its gratitude to the Office of Interinstitutional and International Relations ORII and to the Vice-Rectory for Research of the University of Cauca for the support provided to the student Laura Isabel Vera Sarria, which made it possible for her to attend the event where this research, directed by professor Germán Cuervo O was presented.
