Graduate students from Unicauca on a technical visit to the Hidroituango hydroelectric project

The students of the Specialization in Water Resources Engineering visited the department of Antioquia, specifically the drinking water plant of Aguas del Oriente and the hydroelectric project located between the municipality of Ituango and the township of Puerto Valdivia.

The Specialization in Water Resources Engineering emerges as an urgent necessity in a context where sustainable water management stands as a critical challenge. This specialization offers advanced knowledge in the planning, design, and management of water resources, equipping professionals to address fundamental issues such as water security, the conservation of aquatic ecosystems, and the mitigation of water-related disasters.

In this context, students from the Specialization in Water Resources Engineering at the University of Cauca, accompanied by professors Carlos Armando Gallardo and Andrea Bolaños from the Department of Hydraulics, carried out a technical visit to the Department of Antioquia.

During this experience, which took place from November 28 to December 1 of this year, the students had the opportunity to learn about the operation of the Hidroituango hydroelectric project, located between the municipality of Ituango and the district of Puerto Valdivia. They also visited the drinking water treatment plant of Aguas del Oriente, located in El Retiro, Antioquia. This activity was carried out with the valuable support of staff from Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM).

The visit was important in allowing students to gain closer insight into the professional field, providing a real-world perspective of their specialization and career path. It also strengthens ties between academia and national and international institutions.
