Between May 5 and 9, 2025, the Physiotherapy program at the University of Cauca welcomed Professor and alumnus Jonathan Adrián Muñoz Luna as part of an incoming academic mobility exercise from Mariana University in Pasto. This initiative strengthens the training, research, and inter-institutional coordination efforts within the Physical Activity and Sports Axis.
“In the sports field, these mobility programs are key because they allow us to share and update evidence-based strategies for athlete evaluation and care. Sports physiotherapy must keep pace with technological and scientific advances, and these spaces enable us to engage with different perspectives, strengthen prevention processes, and explore innovative tools such as mobile applications or heart rate variability analysis,” stated Professor Jonathan Adrián Muñoz Luna. He added that being close to practical training environments, interacting with students and colleagues, and observing how training processes are developed in the field of sports physiotherapy enriches his own teaching and professional practice. He emphasized, “Sports need physiotherapists who understand the complexity of performance, risk, and recovery, and these experiences help to shape precisely that professional profile.”
During his stay, this graduate from the University of Cauca engaged with students enrolled in the Sports Elective course through the topic “Mobile applications for athlete assessment,” in which he addressed cutting-edge digital tools applied to the clinical and sports context. In addition, he led a session entitled “Heart rate variability as a marker of cardiovascular risk and sudden death in athletes” with seventh-semester students undertaking their formative practicum in Physical Activity and Sport, fostering critical and applied analysis of these indicators within the field of sports physiotherapy.
In this way, the alumnus, who is also a professor, visited the different practicum settings within the program, acknowledged the work carried out by faculty members and students, and participated in the structuring of collaborative research processes between the University of Cauca’s Physiotherapy Program and the Mariana University of Pasto, with the clear objective of promoting joint initiatives with academic and scientific impact.
For our university, it is clear that these types of mobility programs strengthen the bonds of our alumni with their Alma Mater, while also contributing to the development of meaningful experiences in the comprehensive education of current students. By creating spaces for connection and dialogue between those who have already walked the university halls and those currently living their own academic journey, we foster an exchange of knowledge, perspectives, and learning that deeply enriches academic life. Moreover, these interactions help showcase inspiring professional trajectories, broaden career horizons, and promote a sense of belonging to the university community, fostering an active network of collaboration and mutual support. We are delighted to share experiences like these, which once again make it clear that Unicauca will always be your home!
