Successful meeting of graduates and female graduates of the Economics Program! A special gathering in the house that is #HeritageOfAll

Last Friday, June 6, the Faculty of Accounting, Economic, and Administrative Sciences became the setting for an emotional reunion of graduates of the Economics Program at the University of Cauca. This gathering not only celebrated shared memories and anecdotes, but also served as a vital space to strengthen the ties among those who carry the Unicauca identity. In addition, the voices and experiences of the attendees were incorporated as key elements in the ongoing curriculum reform, aimed at enriching the future of the program.

The Economics Program of the University of Cauca, recognized for its excellence backed by its high-quality accreditation, is engaged in a continuous improvement process that integrates diverse perspectives to guide the education of its students toward the new challenges of the social environment. In this regard, the meeting’s main objective was to connect our graduates with the transformative process the program is currently undergoing. Soon, the approval of a Curricular Reform is expected, which will bring significant benefits both for students and for research and social engagement activities.

One of the most significant moments of the event was the lecture “Population Projections as an Instrument for Public and Private Decision-Making,” delivered by economist Luis Felipe Jiménez Chávez, a graduate of the program, Master’s degree holder in Population Studies from FLACSO, and current official at Mexico’s National Population Council (CONAPO). His presentation made it possible to reflect on the strategic value of demographic statistics and their application in crucial decisions regarding resource allocation, territorial planning, and the challenges posed by phenomena such as the demographic dividend and accelerated population aging.

With an attendance of close to 90 people, this meeting made it possible to share the Executive Summary of the Curricular Reform currently in the evaluation phase by the Higher Council. It also provided a space for intergenerational integration between future economists and those who have already gone through this stage of the journey and who have more than 15 years of professional experience. The evening concluded on a joyful and convivial note through music: the SINTRAUNICOL folk group and the rock band Signos Band were in charge of setting the atmosphere, making this a memorable occasion and laying the foundations for the creation of a Professional Network of Economists of Cauca.

In this regard, program coordinator Mónica Sinisterra stated, “For us, establishing ties with graduates represents an opportunity to make known the continuing education processes we have available; it also represents the opportunity to demonstrate how we have advanced as a program, how we have addressed aspects that needed improvement in the past, and to show the evolution the program has undergone to become one of the best economics programs in our country, and we also hope, in the world.”

In this way, the Economics Program welcomed its graduates to such a special event, with the opportunity to showcase part of the harvest for which they have worked hard over the past 25 years.

Among the attending graduates, there was evident joy at returning to their home institution, and they expressed the need for a greater number of gatherings of this kind.

From this home that is #HeritageOfAll, we celebrate these kinds of spaces, remembering that our University will always keep its doors open for all Unicaucana men and women who have passed through our classrooms and who today are bringing their dreams and goals to life while contributing to the country’s development.
