With great enthusiasm, the diploma course held its closing ceremony on December 6 at the Paraninfo Francisco José de Caldas, a space in which 35 students received their certification, reaffirming their commitment to innovation and educational transformation in the region.
“Today, 35 students have graduated, each of whom completed the modules with great dedication, making this closing ceremony a very emotional moment. They are finishing their university studies as licentiate graduates and have expressed their gratitude for what they have learned. We are very pleased with this conclusion of activities and hope to open a new cohort of the diploma course next year,” stated Samin Ingrith Cerón Bravo, coordinator of the Diploma Course in Educational Actions.
For his part, Professor Daniel Eduardo Perdomo highlighted the pedagogical process developed in the program: “We worked with the teachers using the research group methodology through practical cases, all focused on didactic teaching and play. Favorable results were achieved, as spaces for reflection and learning were created, in addition to exploring new contexts to transform education in the classroom. The participation of teachers from different areas such as mathematics, philosophy, and physics was taken into account.”
One of the most engaging modules of the diploma course was the mindfulness module, a personal development practice based on observation and mental training. This approach contributes to increased concentration, emotional self-regulation, and the reduction of anxiety and stress. The module seeks for future teachers to incorporate tools to regulate their nervous system and thus offer more meaningful learning experiences.
The guest lecturer Mabel Sterling Vallejo, in charge of this module, highlighted its importance: “For me, it is very important to thank the University of Cauca, and especially the Mathematics program, for being a national pioneer in implementing a mindfulness course as part of a diploma program that integrates the exact sciences with contemplative practices of well-being and care. For the department of Cauca, it would be essential to continue with this type of space that considers integral dimensions of the human being, strengthens emotional regulation, improves mental health, and contributes to peacebuilding through the cultivation of capacities such as kindness, compassion, empathy, and care for others.”
With this experience, the University of Cauca promotes a new generation of teachers who teach through creativity, emotion, and play. Because transforming education also means daring to change the way we learn, this diploma course becomes a starting point for those who want to bring fresh ideas into the classroom and make a difference in the lives of their future students.
