For the third consecutive year, under the motto “It’s not a day, it’s not a month, it’s a lifetime!”, the University of Cauca reaffirms its institutional commitment to becoming an educational center that guarantees equal conditions and opportunities for all. In the framework of the International Women’s Day, the University continues its work of highlighting, through a collective memory exercise, the contributions of Unicaucan women who, through their knowledge and leadership, have paved the way in academia, science, research, administration, social movements, and all areas where this regional center of higher learning has an impact.
Since 2023, this campaign has taken a historical perspective, recognizing that the struggle for women’s rights has been marked by mobilizations, resistance, and transformations. While significant progress has been made, challenges persist that require continuous attention and action. In this context, the University of Cauca, as a high-quality accredited public higher education institution located in a territory as diverse and extensive as the Cauca Department, recognizes itself as a key space for promoting change and guaranteeing women’s rights. It takes into account the barriers they face in accessing education, decent work, and, more broadly, participation in public life. From this perspective, the University promotes various actions to facilitate access to higher education and implements projects, calls for participation, and research initiatives aimed at defending women’s rights.
However, even though significant steps have been taken, change must begin from within. This outreach and reflective process seeks to strengthen the commitment of the university community to building a more equitable, safe, and inclusive environment.
Thus, for 2025, the campaign continues to position itself with the goal of highlighting the stories of those powerful women who, through their daily lives, contribute to the construction of a fairer and more equitable university, allowing us to be who we are. For this reason, the campaign emphasizes the diversity of women from Unicauca in their various roles and trajectories, as well as the depth of their daily actions in academic practice and in caring for life in all its forms. Their work not only enriches academia but also, through their paths and capacity to dream big, contributes to the ethical and personal growth of a vibrant, multicolored community.
In this way, the University of Cauca celebrates the legacy of each of these women, recognizing their struggles, commitments, and achievements, making it clear that, through their example, they inspire new generations of professionals in the region, demonstrating that it is indeed possible to conquer fields that were once denied to them.
For all these reasons and many more, we invite the university community to join this commemoration, which cannot be limited to a single date on the calendar. The goal is to continue building a University that is #HeritageOfAll, where all women can fully exercise their rights and contribute in revolutionary ways to social change.
Follow us on Facebook and Instagram, where you can discover the inspiring stories of each of the protagonists, professors, students, contractors, staff, and alumni, who form the beating heart of our institution. Every day throughout March, you will have the opportunity to connect with a new story of #UnicaucaWoman.
Because it’s not just a day, it’s not just a month. it’s a lifetime of struggle, resistance, and transformation!
