From August 11 to 15, 2025, the Phonoaudiology program at the University of Cauca welcomed Dr. Miguel Lázaro López-Villaseñor, Vice Dean of the Speech Therapy program at the Complutense University of Madrid, within the framework of the Second Academic-Research Meeting of the Communication, Health, and Social Development Research Group – COMUNICASS.

For five days, the academic community engaged in a rich exchange of knowledge with the renowned speech therapist and researcher Dr. Miguel Lázaro López-Villaseñor, who carried out an academic stay as part of the research project “Validation of the Sentence Repetition Task Test in Children Aged 2 to 4 for Phonoaudiology,” registered with the Vice Presidency for Research of the University of Cauca (code VRI 6019). The researcher is part of this initiative as an external collaborator representing the Speech Therapy program of the Complutense University of Madrid. His visit was made possible through a call from that institution, which enabled him to obtain funding to undertake his academic stay in Popayán.

The work agenda included meetings with the Language Student Research Group, sessions with members of the COMUNICASS Research Group, a keynote lecture on the approach to child language from the perspective of speech therapy, and a visit to the Botanical Garden of the Misak community. The latter activity offered an experience of communication and interculturality, connecting science with nature and ancestral knowledge.

The work plan carried out during the visit strengthened the program’s research and training processes, integrating faculty and students into training spaces that enriched the understanding of child language from diverse perspectives and cultural contexts. “As a professor and director of the Communication, Health, and Social Development Research Group, I consider this an opportunity to broaden our horizons and knowledge in phonoaudiology,” stated Professor Isabel Muñoz, who coordinated the academic agenda.

The University of Cauca continues to consolidate international partnerships that strengthen research, teaching, and social outreach. Initiatives such as this demonstrate the institution’s commitment to generating socially relevant knowledge, promoting collaboration among researchers and the exchange of experiences that enrich both professional and human development. In this way, the presence of international experts such as Dr. Lázaro López-Villaseñor contributes to the strengthening of scientific thinking from a diverse and intercultural perspective, reaffirming that the University of Cauca is #HeritageOfAll.
