Call for the Art and Otherness Seminar 2024. An Exploration of the Ecosophical Object

From September 25 to 27, 2024

On September 25 at 8:30 a.m., the auditorium of the Banco de la República will host the opening ceremony of the seventh edition of the seminar “Art and Otherness,” which will carry the theme “The Work of Art as an Ecosophical Object.”

This event invites artists, scientists, philosophers, and the general public to reflect on the complex intersection between art, ethics, and ecology in the contemporary context.

The aim of this seventh edition is to build upon the reflections of thinkers such as Ludwig Feuerbach and Michel Foucault, and to offer a space for discussing the transformation of the human figure in a world where technology and art intertwine. In a context in which humans are no longer the center of knowledge but rather one element within a vast interconnected network, the seminar seeks to question the structures of thought that shape our perceptions and practices.

The objectives of this important academic space are:

  1. Explore the construction of existential territories: Reflect on how we situate ourselves in a chaotic and constantly changing world.
  2. Develop a new existential paradigm: Investigate the ethological, ecological, and ethical aspects that will guide our future interactions with the environment.

The seminar will include lectures, workshops, and roundtable discussions aimed at generating a rich dialogue among diverse disciplines. Participation from various artistic expressions, such as visual arts, music, graphic design, and literature, will be encouraged in order to explore the concept of the “ecosophical object” as an entity in continuous construction.

For this seventh edition, the seminar will feature guests such as: Emma Sanchez Baizabal, PhD in Philosophy of Technology at UNAM (Mexico); Nadia Soledad Martin, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina; Jean-Clet Martin, PhD in Philosophy from Paris VIII University; Bruno Iacomella, Graduate in Graphic Design (2010) and Bachelor in Sociology from the University of Buenos Aires, with specializations in Industrial Design, Illustration, and Typography; Jazmín Adler, PhD in Comparative Theory of the Arts from UBA (University of Buenos Aires, Argentina) and director of the Graduate Program “Technologies in Contemporary Art”; Juan Diego Parra, PhD in Philosophy, specialist in literature, and contributor to compilations on semiology; María Ximena Alvarado Burbano, PhD in Musicology from the University of Music Franz Liszt, UNESCO Chair of Transcultural Music Studies, Germany; among others.
