On one occasion, I heard a yogi share a story that moved me deeply. He explained that, no matter how large, powerful, beautiful, or imposing a wave may be, it always belongs to the whole; it is an intrinsic part of the ocean that makes it possible and, in the end, inevitably merges back into it. I believe this is a beautiful metaphor for life and for what we have represented over these four years at the helm of the Rector’s Office. At the end of the day, we are not isolated beings, but part of a system, a team, and a project that is sustained only through the sum of the efforts of every person who makes up this great university ocean.
This four-year period has allowed us to consolidate our institutional strength. The achievements made in administration, management, and planning, together with technological transformation and legal certainty, are tangible proof that we have honored our commitments. The transparent and responsible management of resources allows us today to state, with confidence, that we have made our administrative system more efficient.
We continue moving forward with determination in our promise of excellence: strengthening human talent, accrediting high-quality academic programs, and planning the creation of new ones that respond to contextual demands and the needs of those who inhabit our territories, people who see in education a pathway to transform their lives, just as ours have been transformed through public education; we are living proof of that. In addition, we have reached territories with genuine sensitivity, creating opportunities and facilitating the mobility of professors and students so that the legacy of the University of Cauca travels the world with pride.
Likewise, we have strengthened our research system and continue to build strategic alliances to promote the development of a region like Cauca, which needs us deeply. Our commitment is clear: to resist violence through culture, turning our artistic expressions into the imprint through which we rebuild the social fabric. We have enhanced our commitment to student Wellness and retention, always maintaining dialogue with all university groups to recognize our differences and work toward a shared purpose: that transformation of lives I mentioned earlier!
At this moment, we can say with pride and certainty that we have built a narrative and communication identity that not only reflects our processes, but also projects us as an articulated, cohesive community with a clear horizon, one that honors the legacy that sustains us while remaining grounded in the present, in harmony with the dynamics that allow diverse audiences to feel close to us and be inspired to study with us.
I know there are countless achievements to highlight and, surely, in this reflection I have left out many efforts that also contribute to this collective accomplishment (for which I apologize). However, I am confident that we have risen to the responsibility and the challenges we undertook. We have done so with the deep commitment that brought us together from the very first day, and for that, I feel profoundly grateful.
I remember that on my fifteenth birthday, my grandfather gave me a piece of advice that resonates more strongly than ever today: he told me that life and time would inevitably pass very quickly, but that the real challenge was to be able to look back and say that time had not passed in vain. He taught me that the key lies in growing, learning, building, and living moments that make us feel proud.
Today, I look back and feel that we are fulfilling that mission. At the end of this rectoral term, we will have the satisfaction of having honored the promise of making our Bicentennial University an institution of excellence and solidarity. Thank you to every professor, student, administrative staff member, and contractor who has supported, through daily efforts, the noble work carried out in every classroom and on every campus. Without you, our people, none of this would be possible.
