On Wednesday, February 19, the signing of the Collective Agreement for Public Employees between the university administration and Sintraunicol was carried out. This agreement is the result of a negotiation process that began in March 2024, involving representatives from the University of Cauca’s administration, the Sintraunicol board of directors, and a delegate representing the union membership.
Undoubtedly, the signing of this agreement represents a highly significant moment for this house of thought. Beyond strengthening dialogue between the administration and workers, it reaffirms the commitment of both parties to continue joining efforts for this institution, where lives are transformed and dreams come true.
“We are facing a very difficult situation: the structural underfunding we have experienced for years. We have long awaited its resolution for the benefit of everyone. This situation constantly pushes us to the limits of our institutional capacity to meet needs, so we do what we can to rationalize spending, prioritize the use of resources, and we do so with the love that guides us, with that heartfelt commitment to an institution to which we owe everything,” stated Rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, referring to the financial context in which the Collective Agreement is being signed and emphasizing the deep affection and gratitude shared by all those who are part of the University, which ultimately allows us to continue working together for our Alma Mater.
In line with the above, Rocío Janeth Ceballos, President of the University Workers’ Union – Sintraunicol, University of Cauca Chapter, stated: “We are aware of the financial situation of the University and of Colombian universities in general; we are going through a difficult economic moment. Therefore, remaining consistent with this reality, we welcome these agreements. We will inform our membership base that there are rights, but there are also commitments to the Institution.”
Thus, with the signing of this agreement, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to the well-being of those who make things happen, our workers, while also keeping in mind the sustainability of the institution. The collective agreement establishes working conditions designed to guarantee stability and greater opportunities for employees, while recognizing the importance of shared responsibility in the construction of a University that is nearing its bicentennial and continues to strengthen itself as a #HeritageForAll
