Hidroinnovación Research Group |eads academic space on water management

The 2nd Water and Engineering Conference was held, addressing topics related to Hydraulics and Hydrology with contributions from national and international experts.

The Department of Hydraulics at the University of Cauca, together with its research group Hidrolnnovación, organized the II Water and Engineering Conference to celebrate World Water Day. The event, held on March 28, 2025, in the Francisco Lemos Arboleda Auditorium, featured a series of lectures with participation from regional and international actors on topics related to water management, flood and disaster control, and water quality in urban drainage systems, among others.

This academic space for updating knowledge and deliberation on important topics in Hydraulics and Hydrology included participation from external entities and the academic community, where analyses of precipitation and temperature trends in the country and region were shared, aiming to raise awareness about water resources both among engineering students and the general public.

With this in mind, this research group invites all Unicauca members to be part of it by contacting them at hidroinnovacion@unicauca.edu.co.

In this way, engineering should not only focus on designing and implementing the appropriate and efficient infrastructure to bring water resources to homes and businesses, but also on being aware of the challenges we currently face in obtaining it, hence the Second Water and Engineering Conference.

The research group Hidrolnnovación, affiliated with the Faculty of Civil Engineering, has been active since 2019. Initially formed by students from Environmental and Civil Engineering programs, it also includes Unicauca members from the Specialization in Water Resources and the Master’s in Hydraulic and Hydrological Engineering, as well as university community members interested in these areas of knowledge.

For the Unicauca engineer and professor, Andrea Marcela Bolaños Rodríguez, mentor of the Hidrolnnovación group, members of this team receive training in topics not covered in the classroom, such as the use of specialized software and the writing of scientific articles based on the research being conducted, which are then presented at national and international events such as the Latin American Congress of Hydraulics.
