The concert featured the outstanding participation of students from Educational Institutions in the municipalities of Acevedo, Gigante, La Plata, Tello, and Rivera, who shone in an ensemble alongside the Metropolitan Band of Neiva. Attendees witnessed a performance in which traditional genres and expressions such as rajaleña, along with the sounds of winds, drums, and voices, resonated with the message of building peace through art and culture.
Artistic Residency: Preparing the Stage for Peace
Prior to the concert, the children and adolescents took part in an artistic residency as part of their preparation. This space has become a distinctive hallmark of the University of Cauca in the execution of medium-format showcases, fostering sessions that promote teamwork, mutual learning, diversity, and coexistence.
In addition to sharing with students from other Educational Institutions, the children exchanged experiences and learning, integrating their artistic expressions into a collective ensemble with the Metropolitan Band of Neiva. In this way, not only are the participants’ musical skills strengthened, but so are their bonds of camaraderie and respect, reaffirming the power of music as a tool to unite territories and cultivate values of peace.
A Transformative Experience
The event was not only a concert, but also an opportunity to recognize how music has transformed classrooms and communities across Huila. The children and young people, its main protagonists, demonstrated through their music what it has meant for them to be part of a process that fosters respect for cultural and natural diversity, while promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Huila en Armonía stood out as a space where each musical performance served as a testimony to the important work carried out by Training Artists, Knowledge-Bearer Artists, Territorial Managers, and Territorial Support Teams who have been implementing this pedagogical strategy in the region.
The gathering, which brought together talent, diversity, and hope, left in the hearts of the community a deep sense of territorial belonging. From the diversity of traditional winds and drums to the choral harmonies of the children, the message was clear: peace is also built through education, art, and culture.
The Presidential Program Sounds for Peacebuilding, led by the University of Cauca in the departments of Cauca, Huila, and Nariño, expresses its gratitude to the participating Educational Institutions, as well as to the teachers, students, and families who have been a fundamental part of this process.
The University of Cauca, in partnership with the Ministry of Cultures, Arts, and Knowledge, reaffirms its commitment to continue strengthening the cultural and social fabric of Huila through music and the arts. “Huila en Armonía” is just one more step in consolidating a national strategy that recognizes cultural and territorial diversity as the foundation for building a peaceful country.
