The special guest to open a new year of conversations about literature, art, and their importance in building territory in the capital of Cauca is the Colombian singer songwriter Adriana Lucía, one of the country’s most renowned artists, celebrated for her powerful voice, unique style, and for blending traditional rhythms with modern sounds such as (porrock).
Starting at 5:30 p.m., when the doors of the Guillermo Valencia Municipal Theater open, you will be able to take part, for the seventh time, in the launch event of Popayán Ciudad Libro, a city-wide gathering that, since 2018, has invited the public to reflect on a central question: the role that culture, literature, and art play in building a nation from the diverse social and academic realities experienced throughout the department. On this occasion, it will be Adriana Lucía who will set the stage for a week filled with academic and cultural activities in the city.
Adriana has more than 25 years of artistic career, captivating audiences of all ages and positioning herself as one of the most representative artists of Colombian sound. In her performances, she takes audiences on a journey through Caribbean music: porro, cumbia, vallenato, and champeta, which she fuses with modern and contemporary elements, creating a fresh and authentic sound.
Hits such as “Quiero que te quedes,” “Llegaste tú,” “Enamórate como yo,” and “Champeta rosa,” among others, along with versions of traditional songs like “Festival en Guararé,” “La Piragua,” and “20 de enero,” are part of her live repertoire and have led the artist to receive nominations at the Premios Nuestra Tierra (2024), where she won the category of “Best Folk Artist of the Year.” She has also been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards (2016–2017) and the Premios Shock, winning in categories such as “Voice of the Year (2008),” “Best Female Soloist (2013),” and “Best Soloist (2014),” among other distinctions.
From the Organizing Committee of Popayán Ciudad Libro, we extend an invitation to an evening of music and literature with Adriana Lucía. Please remember that entry to the Municipal Theater will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will remain open until full capacity is reached. Admission is completely free.
