Student and faculty academic mobility continues in the Physiotherapy program

Student and faculty academic mobility continues in the Physiotherapy program

Students and faculty from the academic program under the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Cauca carried out an academic mobility activity at the María Cano University Foundation, Medellín campus.

From November 11 to 15, students and professors from the Advanced Elective in Sports, part of the Physical Activity and Sports track of the Physiotherapy program, carried out a national mobility activity at the María Cano University Foundation, Medellín campus. There, students received theoretical and practical classes from professors of the host institution on technologies applied to sports, cardiovascular risk assessment, sudden death risk and heart rate variability, as well as sports injury prevention.

Likewise, they were able to learn about sports physiotherapy processes carried out in professional soccer clubs such as Deportivo Independiente Medellín and Atlético Nacional.

Students Julián Camilo Fernández Salazar; Mayelin Dayana Álvarez Rosales; Juan Diego Zamora Solarte; Juan David Portela Muñoz; and Girlneanh Alexandra Nieto Ley participated in this academic mobility activity together with professors Viviana Marcela Celis Quinayas; Jeffry Alexander Hoyos Quisobony; Isabela Torres Ramírez; and Andrés Felipe Villaquirán Hurtado.

In this context, the professors from the University of Cauca conducted several masterclasses with seventh- and eighth-semester students from the María Cano University Foundation, Medellín campus, where they shared academic and professional experiences on topics such as: vacuum therapy in sports rehabilitation, flexibility as a therapeutic strategy, sports rehabilitation for anterior cruciate ligament injuries, functional assessment in chronic non-communicable diseases, and training planning applied to sports physiotherapy processes.

This mobility initiative succeeded in strengthening the collaborative work carried out by the Physical Activity and Sports track at the research level with the María Cano University Foundation, Medellín campus, and the Mariana University of Pasto through the research project “Perspectives of Sports Physiotherapists in Colombia on Injury Prevention Programs”, registered with the Research System of the University of Cauca. The project aims to determine the perspectives and knowledge of sports physiotherapists regarding the planning, organization, and implementation of injury prevention programs for athletes in Colombia, generating significant progress for the profession at the national level.

Through the Physical Activity and Sports track, the Physiotherapy program continues to develop national mobility processes that allow access to diverse pedagogical approaches, teaching methodologies, and innovations; expand academic and research networks; strengthen professional profiles by enhancing intercultural, adaptive, and communication skills; and contribute to the goals of mobility by promoting a more integrated, diverse, and competitive learning process for future physiotherapists of the University of Cauca.
