Student from Unicauca, Minciencias scholar, stands out for his publications on the Internet of Things in scientific journals

Andrés Felipe Solís Pino, a student in the Doctorate in Electronic Sciences program, affiliated with the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Telecommunications at Unicauca, stands out for his research work.

Publishing an article in a recognized journal is a research process that requires discipline, dedication, in-depth study, and adherence to a series of evaluative standards. In today’s story, we are not talking about just one publication (which alone is reason enough to celebrate), but rather five publications in high-impact, academically recognized journals. This has been the work of Andrés Felipe Solís Pino, a mechatronics engineer, graduate of Corporación Universitaria Comfacauca, and doctoral student in Electronic Sciences at the University of Cauca.

Andrés Felipe, who is a scholarship recipient from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia, began his doctoral studies in February 2023 under the supervision of Professor César Alberto Collazos Ordóñez, director, and Professor Pablo Hernando Ruiz Melenje, co-director, both affiliated with the Faculty of Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Cauca, as well as Professor Alicia Mon, co-director, from the Universidad Nacional de La Matanza in Argentina.

After a thorough review of the selected literature for his research, the five articles were written. The first was a bibliometric analysis titled “A bibliometric analysis of the landscape of measuring technology maturity in the enterprise internet of things”, published in the International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, which holds a B category according to Publindex, an evaluation system managed by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia. The second article consisted of a systematic literature mapping titled “Mechanisms for measuring technology maturity on the Internet of Things in enterprises: A systematic literature mapping”, published in the journal Internet of Things, recognized worldwide in the field. This mapping was accompanied by a systematic literature review, titled “Systematic literature review on mechanisms to measure the technological maturity of the Internet of Things in enterprises”, which was also published in the Internet of Things journal, constituting the third article.

The fourth article was titled “Analysis of enterprise internet of things maturity models: A review” and was published in the journal Applied Sciences, rated Q1.

From these reviews, Andrés Felipe noted a gap in the existing literature: the lack of specific tools to measure the technological maturity of the Internet of Things that consider human, technological, and organizational dimensions to assess this technology’s maturity. Therefore, to address this need, the student, his supervisor, and co-supervisors developed and published a maturity model in the Internet of Things journal titled “ATLANTIS: A multidimensional maturity model for evaluating the adoption of the Internet of Things in industrial SMEs.”

“Being part of this program is extremely rewarding, as it promotes continuous learning. I encourage all students interested in research to enroll in the Doctorate in Electronic Sciences at the University of Cauca, one of the best in Colombia. This experience will allow them to work with high-level professors, research their interests, and enhance their professional careers,” expressed Andrés Felipe Solís regarding this fascinating and enriching research process.

Indeed, the outcomes of these academic experiences, led by students and professors, are always fundamental for continuing to build valuable knowledge that leaves an important legacy for our university and our region.
