The Cauca Alma Mater presented the 2024 management report: this is how an important commitment to transparency and good governance was fulfilled!

Under the slogan “Weaving dreams that transform lives,” the University of Cauca presented its Accountability Report for the 2024 fiscal year. The event, held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Francisco José de Caldas Paraninfo, with a full auditorium and many people connected to the live broadcast, featured presentations by the Senior Management team, led by Rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera. With notable attendance, the institution not only complied with current regulations but also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency in the management of public resources.

With the conviction that each member of the university community is a key piece in the puzzle that makes it possible to achieve the institutional goals set out in the Institutional Development Plan “For a University of Excellence and Solidarity,” and to face the challenges that arise on a daily basis, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, the Public Accountability Hearing for fiscal year 2024 took place. The event, which brought together the university community and interested citizens in a space for participatory dialogue on institutional management, began with the screening of emotive audiovisual pieces that added warmth and a sense of closeness to the day. In addition, as part of its distinctive features, it included an interesting graphic documentation component, this time in digital format, as a tool to produce a final report of the session. Thus, Rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, together with his team of vice-rectors, presented an overview of the work carried out during 2024, placing special emphasis on the main achievements attained.

During his remarks, Rector Deibar René Hurtado Herrera highlighted, among other aspects, the significant progress made in the implementation of the institutional roadmap, namely, the Institutional Development Plan, and underscored one of the most important milestones: “We achieved an 88.3% execution of our Development Plan, four points above what we had projected, which means the University has been highly efficient in its implementation. That is why, within the bicentennial axis, we considered it fundamental, from the moment we assumed the rectorship, to strengthen the present, because only by strengthening the present were we able to face the challenges of the future. And in that line of thinking, the main achievement of 2024 was the approval of Law 2351, which allowed us to expand Stamp Tax revenues by three hundred billion pesos.”

The outcome of this experience has been so positive that Professor Cortés and his students are planning two additional visits. One visit will be to the Smurfit Kappa company plant in Yumbo, Valle del Cauca, to learn about the entire process of transforming the wood extracted from Cajibío. The second trip will once again be to the municipality in Cauca, to observe the company’s forest planting process and to conduct surveys aimed at determining how cohesive social organizations are in defending the territory and in carrying out joint activities, projects that are shared and much needed to achieve sustainability in the region.

“The importance of carrying out these activities through these pedagogical models lies in the fact that students, and future professionals, begin to attune themselves to the actors, the context, the landscape, and the socioeconomic and ecological problems affecting the department of Cauca. In this way, once they graduate, they can lend us a hand through their professional practice to achieve a higher level of development in these municipalities,” emphasized Professor Raúl.

Initiatives like these will always be a source of great joy and pride for our institution of higher learning and regional thought, as they demonstrate the pedagogical vocation of our faculty, their willingness to establish dialogue between academia and the community, as well as their interest in building appropriate progress for the regions. We hope to soon continue sharing updates on these actions which, without a doubt, strengthen our presence in the territory.
