The event, carried out in a participatory environment marked by warmth and human connection, was attended by a large number of children between 0 and 5 years old, pregnant women, and community mothers from the surrounding area. Participants engaged through dynamic educational stations that addressed health care from an interdisciplinary and playful approach. The activity received essential support from the Directorate of the University Health Center, serving as a tangible example of a university that is supportive and committed to its environment.
Thus, each program contributed its unique expertise, ensuring comprehensive coverage of developmental and health needs. The Physiotherapy program carried out actions related to intrauterine stimulation, gross and fine motor skills exercises, and early detection of warning signs in child development. Meanwhile, the Nursing program led strategies for risk factor control, vaccination, and the promotion of healthy habits; and the Phonoaudiology program guided activities focused on language promotion, hearing, and early stimulation.
One of the most significant outcomes of this initiative was the identification of specific cases requiring individualized follow-up and timely referral to the health services available at the University Health Center. This process strengthens not only early detection, but also the effective articulation between the training processes of future professionals and the care processes that directly benefit the population.
From an academic perspective, the experience consolidated interdisciplinary work among health-related programs, promoting in the students of the University of Cauca a comprehensive education grounded in collaboration and mutual understanding, while significantly reinforcing the essential bond with the community.
This and other initiatives demonstrate the unwavering institutional commitment of the University of Cauca to promoting the health and Wellness of families in Popayán. The University reaffirms its mission to generate a positive social impact through collaborative, human-centered, ethical work firmly oriented toward community service.
