The Superior Council of the University of Cauca approved the freezing of tuition fees for postgraduate programs for the first academic period of the current year, maintaining as a reference the legal minimum wages in force for 2025. This temporary measure seeks to guarantee retention and access for both current students and applicants within the current economic context of the country.

Under the provisions of Higher Agreement 003 of 2026 “By which a temporary and exceptional measure is adopted regarding the value of tuition fees in graduate programs offered by the University of Cauca for the first academic term of 2026”, the University of Cauca, as a public institution committed to equitable access to higher education, adopted this decision within the framework of its institutional mission to expand academic opportunities and contribute to the social transformation of the territory and the country. The decision not to increase tuition fees seeks to mitigate the economic impacts faced by graduate students, facilitating the continuity of their academic processes and encouraging the enrollment of new professionals interested in strengthening their academic training at this house of studies, which is approaching its bicentennial.

Aligned with the second strategic axis of the current Institutional Development Plan, entitled Education as a Generator of Potential and Opportunities, this measure prioritizes access, retention, and educational quality as fundamental pillars for human and social development. In this way, the University of Cauca reaffirms its historical vocation as an inclusive institution, with nearly 200 years of trajectory, that understands education as a right and a public good at the service of society. Thus, this house of thought, which is #HeritageOfAll, has adopted this measure not only to provide economic relief to the student community, but also as a commitment to the academic sustainability of graduate programs, recognizing the effort of those who choose to continue their education at a high-quality accredited public university.

In this regard, Dr. Deibar René Hurtado Herrera stated: “I want to inform the postgraduate student community of the University of Cauca that the university administration, in accordance with our mission of being a university of excellence and solidarity, has presented a proposal to the Superior Council. This proposal was approved through Agreement 003 of 2026, which allows the temporary freezing of tuition costs, using the legal minimum wage in force for 2025 as a reference.

The objective is to guarantee the retention of our students in the postgraduate programs they are currently pursuing and to encourage our graduates to undertake their postgraduate studies at our Alma Mater. In addition, during this semester we will be presenting a comprehensive reform so that variations in the minimum wage do not have such a significant impact on tuition costs.”

For her part, the director of the Center for Postgraduate Studies of the University of Cauca, Dr. Yenni Angélica Conde Cardona, noted that “The decision to freeze postgraduate tuition fees for 2026 at the 2025 rates seeks to directly contribute to guaranteeing not only access, but also the retention of more professionals in advanced education in the current context of a significant increase in the cost of living. This measure also aims to ease the economic burden on students and their families by promoting equity, reaffirming the public nature of our University, and at the same time strengthening the training of highly qualified human capital with which we aim to positively impact the social, economic, and productive development of the region and the country.”

From the caucana Alma Mater, an invitation is extended to the university community and to the public to share this important institutional decision, so that more people interested in continuing their postgraduate education become aware of this opportunity and can project their academic goals at a university committed to the country’s development, a university where lives are transformed and dreams come true. The invitation is clear: transform your future at the University of Cauca!
