Unicauca launches New Website: the Caucana Alma Mater modernizes on its way to its bicentennial

Last Friday, August 9, at the Tulcán University Sports Center, and with a memorable event that brought together the three sectors of the university community as well as the general public, the University of Cauca celebrated the launch of its new Website. This historic milestone represents another step toward the institution’s modernization on its path to the bicentennial, the result of the hard work led by the talent nurtured here.

Within the framework of its Institutional Development Plan 2023–2027, “For a University of Excellence and Solidarity,” the University of Cauca has established the “Modernization of administrative and functional processes” as one of its strategic pillars. Thus, the launch of this new website reflects that commitment, facilitating more efficient and accessible processes for both the university community and the general public. This achievement is the result of the collective effort of interdisciplinary Unicaucano talent led by the Division of Information and Communication Technologies, with the support of students from Systems Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering, Graphic Design, and Social Communication, who made this dream a reality.

For more than 25 years, the University of Cauca used the same website, a tool that supported and facilitated many institutional achievements. However, the time for evolution and transformation has arrived, and for this reason, to bid farewell to the old portal and welcome a new digital era, the University organized a spectacular event. Starting at 5:00 p.m, the University Sports Center lit up with a special setup featuring lights, screens, live music, guest artists, and the active presence of students, professors, staff members, and all university administrators.

The event began with remarks from the Rector, Dr. Deibar René Hurtado Herrera, who highlighted the importance of the new platform: “This website brings together many of the initiatives we are advancing in terms of technological transformation. It is our presentation card to society, since through it, citizens can see how we are investing and honoring the public resources that the public university so greatly needs. But most importantly, it allows them to learn about our undergraduate and graduate program offerings,” he expressed, moved to see this milestone materialized.

For his part, the Administrative Vice Rector, engineer Jorge Adrián Muñoz Velasco, was responsible for formally presenting the new website, since as the former head of the Division of Information and Communication Technologies, he led this administrative modernization project for quite some time. He explained that it “has to do with people’s well-being, because through the improvement of these tools, administrative, academic, research, and social outreach processes become more efficient, thus advancing on the path toward the bicentennial.” The Vice Rector highlighted the major challenge this demanding process represented and the satisfaction of seeing it become a reality.

The new website of the University of Cauca is designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone. Now, people with visual impairments can navigate it easily thanks to an accessibility button that guides each step, and those with different abilities will find tools designed to improve their experience and help them access the information they need.

Since such an important event could not go unnoticed, the entire ceremony was accompanied by local talent. The creation of the ideal atmosphere for the occasion was led by DJ Rokky, known as “the blind man who makes people enjoy,” a talented DJ who gave the perfect touch to such a special date, also demonstrating that when life goals are set and a path of action is defined, no limitation can clip our wings. In this way, from this University which has defined solidarity as one of its main guidelines for institutional action, coherence between discourse and action is upheld. In addition, the event featured performances by Popayán urban artists such as Edizzy, Saoz, and JotaP, as well as Unicaucano artist Marshall, who delighted the audience with their live presentations. These young artists, just like our University, dream big and are transforming their lives with their talent and creativity.

From this house of study and regional thought, the materialization of this dream is celebrated, and we express our gratitude to every person who contributed their grain of sand so that today we can count on this new digital face. The goal is to continue fulfilling the objectives set out in the Institutional Development Plan, as the greatest motivation is to provide the necessary well-being to the community, considered our most valuable asset.
