Have you ever wondered why it’s so hard for you to make a decision? Or what leads you to choose one plan over another? Or even why you chose that particular person as your romantic partner? The good news is that we have the answer to these and many other questions, but not just any answer. It’s a full scientific outreach exercise. Sounds interesting, right?

Well, for some time now, Professor Alfonso Enrique Ramírez Sanabria, together with the Communications team of our Alma Mater, has taken on the task of developing a communication project in podcast format, with the purpose of sharing with curious minds all the details of the chemical process the body undergoes when it must make a decision, a daily task occurring every second of our existence, even if we are not fully aware of it… A simply fascinating universe!

The initial idea was inspired by Professor Alfonso’s reading of the books Compórtate: La biología que hay detrás de nuestros mejores y peores comportamientos, and its follow-up “Decidido” by author Robert Sapolsky. “After reading those books, I began to ask myself about the processes that actually occur in our bodies. Then, while writing a book about the bonds and attractions between the molecules of atoms, I started wondering: What is really happening inside our bodies? Is it a reaction or a chemical attraction? That’s how the first idea was born to share what I had read and be able to transmit that knowledge to others,” the professor explained with huge enthusiasm.

In this way, the professor shared his idea with a group of dreamers committed to scientific outreach, finding support from the Communications Office and from María Alejandra Medina, coordinator of the Unicauca Estéreo radio station, who stated: “As a university radio station, we are strongly committed to fostering a high-quality public sphere and ensuring our audience receives education from different fields of knowledge. The same applies to the programs that are part of our programming lineup, that is our most important mission. Since we are aware of the complexity of connecting this type of more specialized knowledge with the audience, we explored a more complete format that, through audiovisual means, could truly capture the attention of the public interested in this content.”
