Since 2018, the Vice-Rectory for Culture and Well-Being at the University of Cauca has led projects aimed at strengthening artistic, literary, and writing processes throughout the region. For this reason, and in an effort to bring these initiatives to more areas of the department, the program now arrives in Almaguer, a municipality known for its rich cultural and natural diversity. There, nearly 40 academic and cultural activities will be held, bringing together more than 20 guests, including prominent national figures such as José Navia Lame, a journalist from Popayán. The event will also feature presentations by singer-songwriter Jesús Cerón, poet Rúrico Pino, and writer Juan Carlos Pino, all of whom are notable figures from Almaguer.
From September 5 to 6, the Santa Clara Teacher Training School (Escuela Normal Santa Clara) and other venues in the municipality will serve as the settings where attendees will gather around themes of memory, the body, and territory, axes that shape the stories, the ways they circulate, and the communities at the center of them.
These will be four days dedicated to thinking and building collectively, within a program enriched by diverse voices that invite us to be inspired, to question ourselves, and to continue fostering social and cultural change through art and literature.
The first edition of Almaguer Ciudad Libro 2024 will take place thanks to the collaborative work of public and private institutions and organizations listed below: the Vice-Rectory for Culture and Well-Being of the University of Cauca and the Santa Clara Teacher Training School, serving as event organizers. Allies: the Publishing House of the University of Cauca and the Municipal Mayor’s Office of Almaguer.
