Program Description

Family Medicine has been recognized as the specialty that enables the development of healthcare delivery models that are better aligned with the country’s epidemiological profile and the General Social Security Health System. It is a globally recognized specialty with its own well-defined body of knowledge, which is based on a systemic understanding of the health-disease process.

The Specialization Program is guided by the principles of comprehensive care and continuity of healthcare, which involve longitudinal patient follow-up and do not limit care based on age, sex, or the affected organ or system. Its scope encompasses all diseases and related health problems.

Choosing to study the Specialization Program in Family Medicine opens the door to a unique perspective on medical practice. This specialty provides comprehensive training that enables healthcare professionals to approach health from a holistic perspective, caring for patients of all ages and treating a wide range of conditions. Its focus on continuity of care aligns with the promotion of long-term patient follow-up, fostering closer and more personalized relationships within the Colombian healthcare system.

General Objective of the Program

Train clinical specialists who incorporate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes inherent to Family Medicine, enabling them to become part of a healthcare system characterized by:

Specific Objectives

Develop the ability to provide comprehensive medical care to patients of all ages, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of various conditions within the framework of Family Medicine.
Promote continuity in patient health follow-up by fostering close and personalized doctor-patient relationships that facilitate long-term care and improve quality of life.
Prepare Family Medicine specialists to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams, applying cost-effective approaches that respond to the epidemiological and social needs of the community.

Graduate Profile

Coordinate and/or participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion and disease prevention programs.
Advise territorial entities, Health Promotion Organizations (EPS), or Subsidized Regime Administrators (ARS) on the implementation and delivery of the benefits plan under the General Social Security Health System (SGSSS).
