Student of Unicauca stands out in Uruguay for his study on cocoa quality assessment

The physical engineer, a student of the Master’s program in Bioengineering and a member of the BIMAC Research Group, presented his work during the International Workshop on Adaptive, Compressive and Computational Imaging (WACCI 2024) and was recognized for its academic significance and its applicability in the cocoa industry.

Kebin Andrés Contreras, a physical engineer and student of the Master’s program in Bioengineering at the University of Cauca, presented his innovative work “Spectral Assessment for Cocoa Quality” during the International Workshop on Adaptive, Compressive and Computational Imaging (WACCI 2024).

The member of the Environmental Molecular Biology and Cancer Research Group (BIMAC) was recognized during the event for the research he presented, its distinctive approach, and its potential to revolutionize cocoa quality assessment in Colombia.

The study has been acknowledged both for its academic relevance and for its applicability within the cocoa industry.

This research, which integrates artificial intelligence techniques and near-infrared spectroscopy, offers a non-invasive methodology for assessing cocoa bean quality, representing a fast and reliable alternative to conventional methods.

The International Workshop on Adaptive, Compressive and Computational Imaging (WACCI 2024), held from November 26 to 28, 2024, in Montevideo, Uruguay, hosted a landmark event in the field of computational and adaptive imaging.

The Environmental Molecular Biology and Cancer Research Group (BIMAC) aims to deepen knowledge related to molecular biology, studying environment–cancer interactions. Likewise, it seeks to advance understanding of the laws that characterize life (microorganisms, plants, animals, and humans) through genomic, metagenomic, proteomic, and multifractal-genomic approaches.
