Program Description

Colombian universities currently face a growing need to train and/or update professionals in the fields of pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, and, of course, educational leadership and management at the higher education level. This training is grounded in research as a cross-cutting component for professionals working in Higher Education across different disciplinary fields.

Law 30 of 1992 and other current legal provisions, including quality accreditation requirements, have transformed the role of the University by integrating professional training and the practice of leadership, management, and teaching with pedagogy, curriculum, assessment, ethics, aesthetics, and research. This calls attention to the importance of training and/or updating university faculty members.

Furthermore, the importance that research currently holds in higher education cannot be overlooked, as it contributes to creating and developing more dynamic and participatory pedagogical strategies, helping to transform the positivist and directive model that characterizes Higher Education in Colombia.

General Objective of the Program

The central purpose of the Master’s Program is to train researchers in the field of Higher Education by leveraging individual, social, and institutional capacities and fostering collaboration with national and international academic communities.

Specific Objectives

To achieve this purpose, the Program draws on the University of Cauca’s broad range of research and training opportunities, the individual capacities and prior experience acquired by applicants, the track records of research groups, and the communication of interests, problems, or needs expressed by society to generate problem-based research areas, research tools, epistemological reflections, and concrete contributions to the field, thereby training professionals with strong research competencies.
In addition, the Program seeks to foster partnerships and cooperation among research groups, research centers, and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Colombia and abroad, as well as academic mobility and exchange, in order to create spaces for the joint and comparative analysis of issues and problems related to the field of Higher Education and its research areas.
