Center for Continuing, Open, and Virtual Education

History

The Center for Continuing, Open, and Virtual Education, CECAV, is a unit under the Academic Vice-Rectorate. It was established by Superior Agreement No. 006 of January 29, 2013, and began its activities in the first semester of 2013 as a service, support, and assistance mechanism for the University’s Academic Units, aimed at the successful development of their non-formal education courses, programs, and events.

CECAV focuses its work on the planning, promotion, direction, coordination, and evaluation of continuing and virtual education programs, based on collaborative work with the University’s different academic units. This makes it a fundamental pillar in addressing the ongoing need for updating and professional development among thousands of users at the local, national, and international levels, maintaining its high quality standards through the continuous improvement of the university community and the general public, and establishing educational activities that contribute to strengthening their skills and competencies in various fields of knowledge.

In this context, the University not only focuses its attention on the development of undergraduate and graduate programs, but also on the management of activities that enhance them and enable them to offer a wide range of educational and professional development opportunities, both for those who can access in-person processes and for those who, due to their geographical location, cannot be present on the university campus, contributing to comprehensive and continuing education in different settings and fulfilling its vital and ongoing commitment to social development through critical, responsible, and creative education.

Thus, through the development of the activities of the Center for Continuing, Open, and Virtual Education – CECAV, the University of Cauca has promoted, throughout its years of existence, cooperation and the management of strategic partnerships with multiple institutions, such as Compañía Energética de Occidente, Comité de Cafeteros, Fundación Tierra de Paz, Fundación Panamericana para el Desarrollo (FUPAD), the Ministry of National Education, the Government of Cauca, the Municipality of Patía, Santander de Quilichao, El Tambo, Santa Rosa, National Parks, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cauca (CRC), the United Nations Development Programme, the Mayor’s Office of Popayán, the Colombian Society of Pediatrics, the Latin American Forum for Music Education – FLADEM Colombia, and Susana López de Valencia Hospital, among other public and private entities, with which different education projects of academic and social relevance have been carried out.
