Considering that the main entrance to the University of Cauca’s Bicentennial Building, located at the corner of Calle 5 and Carrera 4 in the historic downtown area, consists of a gate that opens directly onto the public sidewalk, the limited space available does not allow for adequate access control. The current entrance configuration includes a vestibule, a covered entrance space located inside the building immediately beyond the main wooden gate on Calle 5. To improve security and access control, it is necessary to install an interior security gate at the end of the vestibule leading to the main courtyard. This solution will allow the main wooden entrance door on the façade facing Calle 5 to remain open while providing a more efficient and secure means of controlling access to the building.

In addition, the rear courtyard contains the original water fountain from the residence that once stood on the site before it was destroyed by the earthquake of March 31, 1983. The University restored this archaeological feature during the construction of the Bicentennial Building. To protect pedestrians from the approximately 1.5-meter difference in elevation between the courtyard floor and the bottom of the fountain, an L-shaped safety railing will be installed adjacent to the structure. This measure will ensure the safe use of the surrounding stairways and provide secure pedestrian circulation around the archaeological feature.
