Faculty of Arts

History

The Faculty of Arts was established on January 23, 1996, through Agreement No. 006 issued by the Superior Council. It is an academic unit focused on artistic work, with initiatives aimed at developing and encouraging creativity as a full exercise of intelligence. The Departments administered by the Faculty are the Department of Music, the Department of Visual Arts, and the Department of Design.

Dean's Office

The Dean’s Office is the office responsible for the academic and administrative management of a Faculty.

The Dean is its highest authority.

Comply with and enforce the provisions in force and the Rector’s orders within their unit.

Advise the Superior Council on the selection of faculty members, following prior consultation with the Council of the respective Faculty.

Ensure strict compliance with the teaching and research programs of the respective Faculty.

Impose or request the imposition of sanctions provided for in the regulations (Repealed by Agreement 069 of December 3, 2002).

Establish class and work schedules for the faculty members assigned to the respective Faculty.

Supervise the activities of faculty, technical, administrative, and service staff.

Authorize the enrollment of Faculty students in accordance with the study programs and regulations, and countersign the certificates that fall within their purview.

Submit the budget of their respective unit to the Academic Council.

Submit to the Academic Council the names of the persons who, in the opinion of the respective Council, are deserving of distinctions.

Request the authorization of expenditures required by the respective Faculty.

Any other functions assigned to them by the statutes and regulations.

Preside over the Faculty Council.

Draft the minutes of the Faculty Council and sign them jointly with the chair of the body.

Sign the resolutions issued by the Faculty Council jointly with the chair of the body.

Maintain and safeguard the records pertaining to the Faculty Council under appropriate conditions.

Notify, in accordance with legal and regulatory provisions, the acts issued by the Faculty Council.

Chair the Faculty’s Faculty Personnel Committee.

Organize the Faculty’s academic schedules in coordination with the coordinators.

Faculty Council

The Faculty Council is a decision-making body on academic matters and serves in an advisory capacity to the Dean on various matters concerning the academic unit it represents. The following functions correspond to the Faculty of Arts Council as a decision-making body:

Control compliance with the teaching and research programs adopted by the Academic Council.

  • Those assigned to it by the Faculty Statute and the Student Regulations issued by the Superior Council.
  • Certify to the Rector compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements for the awarding of degrees.

  • Request that the Academic Council establish the admission quotas for new students.

Submit the list of candidates for Deans, Heads of Departments, and Directors of Institutes.

  • Adopt its own regulations.
  • Annually submit the Faculty’s Development Plan and Budget Proposal to the Academic Council. (Agreement 031 of June 3, 1997, Art. 6).
  • Hear appeals filed against academic acts issued by the Dean of the Faculty in the cases provided for by law, the statutes, and the regulations. Except where otherwise provided by law, the academic-administrative procedure concludes with the decisions made by the Faculty Council on appeal regarding actions taken by deans, heads, or directors of academic units. Acts of the Faculty Councils are subject only to an appeal for reconsideration before the same Council (Agreement 031 of June 3, 1997, Article 6).
  • Any other functions assigned to it by law, the statutes, and the regulations.

As an advisory body According to Article 40 of Agreement 105 of 1993, as an advisory body to the Dean, the Faculty Council has the following functions:

  • Provide an opinion on the creation, modification, or elimination of the Faculty’s teaching and research programs, as well as on the work of the faculty members assigned to the respective Faculty, subject to the provisions of the statutes and regulations.
  • Provide advice in the Faculty’s faculty recruitment process.
  • Submit to the Superior Council, through the Rector, the results of the selection process for the faculty recruitment call.
  • Propose candidates for distinctions.
  • Propose the calendar of the Faculty’s academic activities.
  • Provide an opinion on the research, advisory, and university outreach policies and plans submitted for its consideration.
  • Any other functions assigned to it by law, the statutes, and the regulations. The Council shall meet regularly once a week and extraordinarily when called by its President. For every Council session, its members shall be notified in writing.
