The Department of Spanish and Literature is an academic unit belonging to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It was established through Agreement No. 031 of June 3, 1997, issued by the Superior Council.
It serves 200 students in the Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Language Education. It has 5 full-time faculty members, 2 occasional faculty members, and 1 adjunct faculty member. At the same time, other Departments provide services to the program: the Departments of Linguistics, Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Social Communication.
Mission
Educating education professionals in language pedagogy and literature, in accordance with an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to interact with communities based on ethical commitment and social awareness.
Vision
To be a pedagogical, research, and cultural benchmark in socio-formation in Language and Literature, with a projection and impact on the development of the region and the nation, educating qualified, well-rounded, critical, and supportive educators through alternative curricula, the appropriate use of new forms of mediation, and intellectual and creative publications.
Objectives
Educate Bachelor's Degree holders in Literature and Spanish Language with a solid theoretical and methodological foundation in Pedagogy, Language Sciences, and Literature, enabling them to creatively develop teaching skills to transmit knowledge and foster processes of inquiry, reflection, and production in these fields.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, specializing in Modern Languages: Spanish-French, from the University of Cauca; Specialist in Reading and Writing Pedagogy from the University of Cauca; and Master’s Degree in Spanish from Paul Valéry University, Montpellier, France.
