Program Overview

Agricultural Engineering at the University of Cauca is a profession within the agricultural sciences that studies, creates, designs, and optimizes the functioning, interaction, and dynamics of agricultural production systems. It involves structuring diverse temporal and spatial arrangements of crops and animals, fostering interactions between them to create synergies that optimize the use of resources within the production unit and contribute to regional and national development.

On June 14, 2013, Qualified Registration was granted through Resolution No. 7438, dated June 14, 2013, for a period of seven years.

To acquire the knowledge and skills needed to address the challenges and needs of the agricultural sector at the local, national, and international levels. The Agricultural Engineer from the University of Cauca is a professional equipped with the competencies and skills to improve the productivity and competitiveness of the agricultural sector through the application of engineering principles, information technology and computing techniques, and the theories and laws governing the functioning of agroecosystems. This professional responds to the socioeconomic needs of the population by contributing innovative solutions to the development of a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient agricultural sector.

Program General Objective

To educate professionals who study, create, design, and optimize the functioning, interactions, and dynamics of agricultural production systems by structuring diverse temporal and spatial arrangements of crops and animals and fostering interactions between them to create synergies that optimize the use of resources within the production unit and contribute to regional and national development.

Specific Objectives

  • Characterize the different components operating within the agricultural production unit to identify limitations, conflicts, and potential in the use of available resources and production factors.
  • Apply engineering principles and fundamentals to agricultural production systems to find innovative, creative, and ingenious solutions, even under adverse physical and production conditions.
  • Study, design, and propose spatial and/or temporal arrangements of crops and livestock to create synergies aimed at preserving natural resources, diversifying land use, increasing solar energy capture, and optimizing nutrient and water cycles to obtain agricultural products and benefits.
  • Increase production and productivity to help meet needs and improve food security and sovereignty at the local and regional levels by utilizing conventional and non-conventional raw materials to increase and diversify production, improve profitability, and reduce environmental impacts.
  • Propose and develop productive projects that enhance and optimize resources across agricultural components and integrate them into production chains.
  • Participate in the implementation of policies and strategies for the development of the agricultural sector.

Professional Profile

The Agricultural Engineer from the University of Cauca, thanks to their training in engineering, technology, administration, and the humanities, is qualified to characterize, diagnose, plan, design, and manage integrated agricultural production systems. The aim is to develop innovative and relevant solutions to increase production and productivity, contributing to meeting needs and improving food security and sovereignty through production diversification and the sustainable use of natural resources.

Occupational Profile

The Agricultural Engineer from the University of Cauca can work as a business manager or as an engineer employed by public or private entities, where they will study, design, and optimize the functioning, interactions, and dynamics of integrated agricultural production systems, seeking to enhance the synergies that underpin these systems. They will also participate in the development and management of policies, plans, programs, and projects related to research, development, training, and technical assistance in the sector.
